BERLIN – SEE YOU NEXT TIME

We are done and gone. Walked at least another marathon in the city, saw all the things we had to see and even more like one of the ‘Berliner Unterwelten’ tours and a nice guided tour at the ‘Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtniskirche’ old and new-style. Both impressive and educational as well as almost everything we’ve seen the last days.

We certainly became experts in traveling with the public transport. We even passed a train station three times, with three different trams in just a bit more then three minutes. That must have been a day record for Dutch tourists in Berlin.

Please check Leonie’s Polarsteps for lots of pictures or just take a look for yourself one day. I’m sure we will, we forgot something.

BERLIN – DILEMMAS

Vitamins are very important. One of my favorite German vitamin is the ‘Currywurst’. But there’s always this daily issue, do I order it with fries or a bun. If it’s raining I think I prefer the bun. On sunny days fries taste much better. Or is it the other way around?

Anyway, if you think this is weird, you should know Leonie only likes the “Currywurst’ if it’s cut into small diagonally slices. And wait there is more, preferably cut by a machine, not by hand. So who’s the weirdo here?

BERLIN – UNIQUE

We took the ‘U-Bahn’ to Alexanderplatz and started walking and exploring the city. We passed the ‘Altes Stadhaus’, had a look inside the ‘Nicolaikirche’. Spend about an hour at the ‘DDR-Museum’ and also visited the ‘Berliner Dom’. Had some coffee and a Berliner. We crossed the ‘Museuminsel’, walked ‘Unter den Linden’, ‘Den Gendarmenmarkt’, ‘Der Deutsche Dom’ to ‘Checkpoint Charlie’ and the little outdoor museum. We didn’t go inside the ‘Topographie des Terrors’ museum, but we did read the history outside on the panels at the back of some remains of the Berlin wall. A quick stop was needed at a big Mall for a warm jacket, gloves and coffee. The ‘Grossmutters Streusel’ pastry never arrived so we went on to the ‘Potsdamer Platz, missed the information board about the former ‘Führersbunker’. The ‘Holocaust-Denkmal’ was already impressive, but we probably go back there to see it by daylight. As well as ‘The Brandenburger Tor’, which was absolutely stunning with all the spotlights. We had a real ‘Wiener Schnitzel’ and a ‘Berliner Kindl Pils’ at the Schnitzelei before we couldn’t find the tram/bus ‘S1B’ back home. So we walked.

I’m very curious what’s on the program tomorrow, probably some walking 😉
